We caught up with one of our students - Fin Matheson - to see where his make-up journey has taken him.
WHAT MADE YOUR CHOOSE TO TRAIN WITH LAUREN GOLLAN?
“I decided to do a professional course with the Lauren Gollan Makeup Academy of Make-Up Artistry so that I had some serious qualifications to go on my CV!!
I did my research as to other makeup schools in Scotland, and Lauren’s was the one that best suited my aesthetic, felt the most relevant and on trend!”
HOW HAS THE EXPERIENCE BENEFITED YOUR AS AN ARTIST?
“Training with Lauren is what gave me the confidence and drive to apply for a job within the industry, and really got my foot in the door.
At the Academy I was able to fine tune my skills and perfect my techniques, while learning the essentials like colour theory and face shapes to help carry my artistic ability.

WHAT WAS NEXT FOR YOU AFTER TRAINING AT THE ACADEMY?
“After completing my course, I applied for a job with MAC Cosmetics. I was quickly invited for an interview and started working for the company a month or so later.
I built up my skills, certifications and confidence with the brand until I was brave enough to step out on my own and start my own personal freelance business.
I started to build up my clientele within Edinburgh and with this, I gained employment as part of the Lauren Gollan team, which gave my skill set a whole other level”.

WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE FOR THOSE THINKING OF DOING A MAKE-UP COURSE?
